Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Will Feature Split-Screen, But There’s a Catch

  • Some fans are disappointed that Black Ops 6 only allows for split-screen action for two people, rather of four, as in previous installments.
  • Split-screen is only possible on next-generation consoles, and earlier consoles are excluded due to performance issues.
  • While there are some significant limits, Black Ops 6’s inclusion of split-screen may be viewed as a success, given it is becoming increasingly rare in newer games.

Many gamers appreciate and eagerly await Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s split-screen capabilities, but there is one caveat that may anger those who prefer the split-screen gameplay present in prior editions. Treyarch and Raven Software are developing Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the latest installment in the popular first-person shooter series, which will be released on October 25, 2024.

By including both new and vintage gameplay elements, the most current Black Ops game looks to be seeking to appeal to a wide variety of Call of Duty fans. During the Xbox Games Showcase, Black Ops 6 was officially announced. It was reported that the game will have a unique combination of new and old gameplay, featuring the reintroduction of cherished elements such as the famous Prestige as well as revolutionary features like Omnimovement. While the reintroduction of split-screen in BO6 may excite fans, there are certain negatives.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 devs confirm that there will be a big change in sniper rifles, making them significantly different from Modern Warfare 3.

Activision revealed that the split-screen gameplay in Black Ops 6 will only enable two players to share the screen, as opposed to the four-player arrangement in previous titles such as BO3. This will undoubtedly disappoint bigger squads, which were hoping for a split-screen capability that allows four players to share the same screen. This is especially frustrating for those looking forward to Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode, which is far more entertaining with a full squad of four people fighting the undead. While the franchise hasn’t had four-player split-screen since Black Ops 3, and it’s great that the two-player option still remains, it’s a shame the four-player option isn’t returning accompanying Zombies’ return to form.

Black Ops 6’s Split-Screen Option Might Disappoint Players

Another disadvantage is that the two-player split-screen capability is only compatible with current-generation consoles, namely the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. This is quite disappointing for previous generation console gamers who were looking forward to the game’s arrival on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Activision argues that split-screen gaming on prior generation consoles is not permitted due to performance concerns. Although it is unknown at this moment if PC gamers will have split-screen support, it is apparent that many of them feel it would be amazing if they could.

The reveal trailer and details made public following the Xbox event indicate that Treyarch and Raven have been working frantically on the gameplay features and systems of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which has been in development for some time. Compared to previous games, Black Ops 6 will feature dramatically altered mobility due to the addition of omnidirectional movement, a new and customizable HUD, and a conventional Prestiging system.
