2 policemen among 5 injured in Peshawar IED blast: official

A police official said that two police officers and five other individuals were hurt in an explosion that occurred in Peshawar on Friday morning.

Peshawar IED blast: Arshad Khan, the Superintendent of Police (SP) for Warsak, told Dawn.com, “A remote-controlled IED (improvised explosive device) exploded while a police van was on patrol.”

About nine in the morning, the police officer said, the event happened.

SP Arshad said, “The blast used four to five kilogrammes of explosives.”

He said, “It’s been reported that six to seven suspects have also been placed under investigation.”

Evidence from the crime site has been gathered, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Kashif Zulfiqar, who spoke with Dawn.com.

Attacks by terrorists on Warsak Road have increased, according to SSP Zulfiqar. “The Mathura police station was the target of a grenade earlier this week.”

The local counterterrorism department (CTD) and the police are collaborating, according to SSP Zulfiqar. “In the vicinity of Warsak Road, a cooperative operation is planned.”

“There will be an imminent revelation regarding the terrorist group,” he said.

With a focus on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, the event is the most recent in a run of assaults on police officers and checkpoints.

Following the TTP’s collapse of a tenuous ceasefire deal with the government in 2022 and their threat to target security personnel, attacks became more intense.

When unknown terrorists threw a hand grenade on a check station in Mayar, Lower Dir on Wednesday, a head constable was murdered and another constable was injured.

A police checkpoint in Peshawar’s Regi Model Town, on the outskirts of the city, was targeted by terrorists last month, injuring a policeman.

Several police officers were among the 100 persons murdered in a suicide assault on a mosque in Peshawar’s Police Lines in January 2023.

The attack’s author, TTP, had declared itself. Though early reports suggested that it could have been the work of a local branch of the banned organisation, it subsequently distanced itself from it.
